How Blade Runner predicted the future of fashion

During the Glamour debate at last week’s Glamour Factory, writer Ted Polhemus mentioned that Blade Runner (1982) was not only the first scifi film to dress its characters in individual looks rather than the same futuristic uniforms, but also correctly predicted what future fashion would look like – retro. It’s something I hadn’t at all realised before but I’m really fascinated with at the moment.

I wonder if current scifi films are correct in their prediction of futurist fashion, which – according to The Book of Eli and co – isn’t much different from today. Except for even more casual denim and combat pants. I so hope they are wrong.
