New favourite brand: Little White Lies

little white lies

Little white lies

Little White Lies is fast becoming my favourite brand. Not surprisingly given that designer Donna quotes Biba and Ossie Clark and peter pan collars as top style inspirations.

The uber cool fringed Talita dress is top of my current wish list. Bring on a sale soon. Please.

Lust list: the tba Lena dress

My love for label tba has been well documented, I lust over their every collection and six of their dresses have found a permanent home in my wardrobe. This season they have outdone themselves though, I mean they have only gone and named a dress after me (just pretend with me).

The Lena dress is black, it’s lacy and it’s very 60s. Ah, come to me my pretty.

Label love: Sister Jane

It’s been pretty quiet here lately, which is mainly down to me having a new job – yep, I work as a social media specialist. As much as I really enjoy my job, I really am struggling with what to wear to work. In other words I am shit at smart casual, mainly cause I just don’t really do proper casual. Ever.

I would love to find the right mix between my usual Sixties style and a more tailored look without looking like an extra from Mad Men. So for now I’ve mainly been wearing shift dresses. A lot of shift dresses. On my quest for more shifts I came across label Sister Jane whose mix of Seventies/Sixties cool with a harder, almost gothic edge really appeals to me. With their Peter Pan collars, lace and contrast cuff dresses they tick a lot of boxes for me.

I’ve bought their lace shift with leather cuffs in both white and black and am more than pleased with both – unlike a lot of modern clothing they are properly made with silk lining. Their tweed dress (pic no 1) is top of my current wish list.

A case of the wants: Carven Resort 2013

Ah, Carven never disappoints! A-line skirts, double-breasted jackets, interesting colour-combinations, collars and just a hint of 60s tailoring.

I need some Peter Jensen in my life

As far as I’m concerned most of my spring wardrobe could come from Peter Jensen’s current collection. I don’t know what I love most, the midi skirt, white sheer dress or amazing jazz club print blouse. Sadly – as usual – none are remotely in my price range.

Alice Nightingale does librarian chic

I really love Alice Nightingale’s current librarian themed collection. Alice is a new independent designer from Australia who mainly sells through etsy. Her collection is all made to order at amazingly low prices. I love the Edith pinafore and the Colette blouse –  both have a nice 60s feel, and I love the sharp cuts.

Oh look a black peter pan collar dress I like!

I should just do a regular feature called “black peter pan dress of the week” since black peter pan dresses now make up the majority of my wardrobe (I counted 12 the other day. Of course they are all totally different. Or so I tell myself).

This week’s contender comes from Antipodium. At £169 its way out of my price range, which does not stop me from adoring its amazing embroidered scissor pattern.

Victoria by Victoria Beckham a/w 2012 – This is what I want, what I really really want

Victoria Beckham’s s/s collection for her diffusion line already had me swoon over sharply cut shift dresses and brilliant prints (cats! clouds!).
The a/w 2012 offering she presented at New York Fashion Week earlier this week has me excited all over again: superbly cut dresses in muted colours with collar and cuff details or bell sleeves hark back to the Sixties and convince in their simplicity. There’s even a black number with a white Peter Pan collar – Oh Vicky B. you know when I bitched about your Mouret rip-offs and lack of talent? I take it all back!

Meet Grannies Inc.

I love the concept of Grannies Inc – a company where you can commission your own bespoke hat or scarf which is then handmade by a granny in the UK. You can even check out which granny made yours!

Worth playing the lottery for – Vivetta S/S2012

I love Italian label Vivetta. Love as in would love to own their collections in their entirety. They sure know how to please my desire to dress like a three year-old (collars! sailor outfits! pretty dresses! cat motifs!). My highlights of their current collection are the red bow dress (it’s red, it has a bow = perfection), the baby blue pleat dress with white collar (I’ll look like a really cool nurse) and the white lace dress with black sleeves and heart detail (my boobage will look amazing). Time to play the lottery I think!

New discovery: Licia Florio

I’ve just come across Italian label Licia Flori. I really love their structured, sharp cuts and interesting scalloped collars. Their unisex, open front brogues are brilliant too, I love the canary yellow pair!

Style High Club loves: Coco Fennell

On my search for the perfect Christmas party dress I came across new London label Coco Fennell. They have such a fab range of Sixties, Seventies and Thirties inspired dresses, I would find it hard to pick just one I like. Top favourites have to be the black dress with white collar and cuffs, the heart-print Seventies number and the polka dot one. Prices start at £75.
