My beauty top 10 – part one

Posted on: Wednesday, April 27, 2011

After years and years of trial and error I have finally settled on something like a beauty routine. Here are the ten products – ranging from the dirt cheap to downright expensive – I really love and use every day: part one!

Best facial peel: Soap & Glory The Fab Pore, £ 7.50
I absolutely love this facial peel and use it as a deep-cleansing mask once or twice a week. Simply lather on a clean face and rub until the little green beads have fully dissolved. I usually leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then gently wash it all off with a warm cloth. I have extremely dry, red skin that doesn’t take kindly to aggressive peelings but The Fab Pore leaves my skin beautifully clean and smooth and indeed with visibly smaller pores.

Best make-up remover: Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil, from £28
This cleansing oil isn’t cheap (the big bottle sets you back £56) but you only need a tiny bit every day, which means it will last you for months and months.
There’s an oil for every skin type, I’ve got the specially enriched one, and absolutely credit it for brightening and clearing up my complexion. I use this oil to remove my make-up and simply massage it into my skin and around my eyes, then add a little water to create a foam and then simply splash it off. It easily removes even the most stubborn water-proof mascara and leaves my skin soft and clean without any oily residue.

Best mascara: Maybelline Falsies, £7.50
When it comes to mascara I only ever really buy Maybelline – I’ve tried expensive ones like Diorshow but couldn’t really see a difference that would justify the price tag. At the moment I’m into Maybelline’s Falsies mascara, which is meant to make your eyes look like you are wearing false eye lashes. I don’t think it creates that very artificial look but gives me thick black coverage without clumping the lashes together for that slightly exaggerated 60s style.

Best blush: Nars Orgasm Blush, £20.50
This is hands down the best blush I have ever used and absolutely perfect if you’re after creating a vintage look. The blush is a peachy pink colour enriched with little gold shimmer to give a glowing, dewy complexion. I’d normally run a mile from anything remotely shimmering but the effect is very subtle and works very well with my very pale skin.

Best concealer: Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, £26
I discovered this on an extended shopping trip in Sephora while in the US last year. The set comes in two shades which you blend together to cover dark circles under your eyes or any other imperfections. I use this under my eyes and on any flare-ups once I’ve applied my make-up foundation for really good coverage without looking too cakey or drying out.
